Julay Brooks is now offering vocal coaching and guitar lessons at The 5th String in Berkeley!

Vocals: Julay is a gifted natural singer who can work with you on phrasing, timing, breathing, style, technique, and harmony. She has studied vocals and guitar with Jody Stecher, and classical vocal technique with the opera singer Claudine Spindt. Julay has also sought to learn and develop her singing style through close listening to the classic bluegrass and country music recordings, and to the great singers we're fortunate to have here in the Bay Area.

Guitar: Julay can help beginners with the basics of how to make chords, strumming and picking patterns, the things you need to begin accompanying yourself as you sing. For those who already know how to do that, but would like to begin playing leads or tunes, she can help out with that as well.

Musical Background: Julay's musical background includes over 20 years of classical training as a pianist, including music theory/analysis and ear training, and 5 or so years of performance locally in bluegrass and country bands accompanied by an intensive self-directed study of those musical styles.
